Portrait Photography for Precious Memories

Photographs are a great way to preserve the memories of your family. Who doesn’t have a photo album or two sitting in their family den? Open them up, and you’re sure to find countless pictures of past Halloweens, birthday parties, family reunions, and graduation parties. One type you don’t always see, however, is a family portrait or two. Portrait photography can definitely be a great present for your loved ones, and is a wonderful way to tell the story of your family.

Portrait Photography Tells a Story

It is said that pictures tell a thousand stories, but perhaps the best way to capture the personality of a person is through portrait photography. This type of art, and some people do consider it an art form, can capture a glance or a look from the subject that can send countless messages to the generations to come. Whether it’s an old formal photograph of your great aunt, or the engagement picture of your youngest son, portrait photography can offer a way to capture both the joy and the formality of each person’s life.

Some would have you believe that portrait photography is something that only belongs in formal settings or as pictures along your family wall. Not so! There are quite a few instances where portrait photography is welcomed. Who hasn’t seen the proud father with a wallet full of portraits of his children? And who could forget those many pictures for wedding anniversaries in the newspaper. Most, if not all, of those pictures come from portrait photography.

In addition to being a great gift for loved ones, especially those with a newborn baby, portrait photography is also quite useful in everyday life. The next time you go to renew your passport, or even your driver’s license; you’ll realize just how important portrait photography is to your daily life.

Since it is such a practical thing, portrait photography is sometimes seen as stuffy. At one time, that might have been true, considering people in the 1800s and early 1900s would have to sit for hours on end to get a decent picture. However, with the advent of modern photograph equipment, portrait photography became easier and much more relaxed. Now there is little chance of your portrait doing anything but lighting up a room.

No matter how you choose to make use of portrait photography, please realize that this type of picture will last far longer than any other. Portraits offer a picture, a tangible link for future generations to the past. While other pictures can remind you of an event, portraits can remind you of the person, and all the triumphs and tribulations that they went through.
